The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is excited to announce that it has been approved for a $200,000 grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation's COVID-19 Economic Impact and Recovery Initiative. Of the 235 "Request for Ideas" submissions submitted, only 80 were invited to submit full proposals. Only 37 were funded at $5.25 million in total.

Westmoreland Intermediate Unit Joins 1,935 Americans to Support Remote Learning During COVID-19 Initiative
The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit joined 1,935 individuals and organizations in calling on Congress to introduce and pass legislation to connect students and library patrons at home during the coronavirus pandemic. The draft proposal, “The Remote Learning During COVID-19 Act,” would provide $5.25 billion for an emergency fund to connect the 7.15 million families who don’t have the internet at home.
The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is hosting a Teen Town Hall event on Thursday, June 4, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, and we would like to invite you to attend. High school and middle school students from across the county will share their experiences during COVID-19 shutdown with our state senators, state representatives, and county commissioners.

The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit (WIU) is proud to announce its partnership with former Pittsburgh Steeler and owner of The Pursuit, Wes Lyons, to offer an online program that will help transform the lives of students by enhancing their educational learning experience. This platform is an evolution of Lyons’ The Pursuit Program, which was created in 2013 to help students focus on key fundamentals, including career preparation, leadership, and other life skills.
Westmoreland Intermediate Unit coordinates production of 3-D Masks for Emergency Management Distribution
The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit (WIU) is proud to share its coordination efforts with its school districts and Westmoreland County Emergency Management to produce 3-D Masks for distribution in areas of need. A 3-D mask provides six times the usage of a single surgical mask. Up to 250 masks will be donated to the Westmoreland County Emergency Management by the beginning of next week. Each mask takes approximately 5 hours to print and 15 minutes to add weather stripping and elastic.
