Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform, used as educational technology. Its learning games, "Kahoots", are multiple-choice quizzes that allow user-generated and can be accessed via a web browser or the Kahoot app. Use Kahoot for engagement or formative assessment.

Hi everybody! This is Melissa Klug from the TaC team at the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit. I wanted to show you a resource called Kahoot. You can use it for student engagement, especially because we are all transitioning to teaching online. The first thing you need to do is go to kahoot.com you can type all of this, but if you just type "Kahoot.com" It will come up for you.  Just be careful because there is also kahoot.it and that is the next step, that's how your students will access it.  So it won't actually let you create it if you do it that way. If you've never logged in, which I'm assuming you might not have if you're watching this for the first time. You'll hit login and it will prompt you to create a password and username and there are different levels.  The lowest level is free and I have a free account so this is what it will look like if you have to do that. That's an extra step for you but then you'll just use the login information that you create and then you will get the screen again when you hit login. The next thing that you need to do is click create and you can make a new kahoot. You can use this as formative assessment. You can use this as a pretest, posttest. You can use it, like I said, even as student engagement as your teaching and get results in live time. I'm going to use this as a pretest. I'm going to click create. There are templates here that you are free to use and play around with, but I'm going to show you how to create one for your self, because then it will be easier when you use the templates too. This is what it looks like, it says click to start typing your question so I'm going to just make a quick pre-assessment about prime and composite numbers. So I'm going to say, "Which of the following numbers are prime?" Okay. Then, I can make this a little fancier by dragging and dropping an image from my computer or I can just click upload image.  So I know I have a lot of math related things already in my pictures, because I do some training with that, so I'm just going to pick something just to make it look more appealing. And it'll pop in there really quickly. There we go. The next thing I need to do, I asked which of the following numbers are prime I need to add some potential prime numbers.  So I'm going to going to add 12, 11 8 and 25.  So I need to actually select the correct answer, so that it will grade it for me later. So 11 is my prime number for that one. Once I have that, I'm going to go ahead and add a question. Because I want...it's going to be brief, but not quite. that brief. I'm going to set this up as a quiz. And here I am on question number two so I'm going to just keep my image the same again. You can certainly change it around, however you would like to do it. And my next question is going to be, "Which of the following numbers are composite?" I want to see if my students know what that is also, so I'm going to just add a variety of quest...I'm sorry of answer choices. Two to select the correct answer. I'm going to add one more question. This one I would like to have a true or false. Notice now it'll just be true or false. I'm going to add that same picture again, just for continuity, you can do it which ever way you would like to do with that. I just do a Google image search and save them in my computer so I have them to quickly grab. This one I'm going to write, and remember this is true or false, "A prime number only has one factor." I'm going to see if they're savvy and know that it is one factor and itself. That one is false. And then that I'm going to hit Preview to preview my quiz. Sometimes it just takes a second, well that just previewed all of them but you can go back and see that they're all there. It has a countdown and I'll show you next how they're actually going to answer all of these questions and what it will look like for them. Okay, so now I am going to hit done after my preview. I'm going to give it a title, I'm just going to call it Prime and Composite. The description is optional. I'm envisioning me giving directions to my students. I'm going to skip that part and then I hit continue. It's validating the kahoot, putting it all together. Now I can either test it out or share it with others. I did the previews, so I'm going to go ahead and share it with others, and what I'm going to do, you can do this in your Google Classroom. You can do this in your Remind, whatever you're going to do, you can just copy this whole thing.  Then you can paste it and whatever you would like it to be in to share that out. When you're ready to play it after you've shared it, you can either share it that way or you can do it in live time and you hit play. So we will do "host live" we're going to have to do "classic" with one to one devices, just the way that we are doing our learning right now. When you're back in a school setting, you'll be able to do it in a different way so this is where they go with their device onto kahoot.it Once they are there on their phone or on their tablet, whatever they're using, they will enter the game pin of 8048254. So I'm going to show you what that looks like on this computer. I'm going to go ahead and pause that sound so you can hear me. So I'm opening another window, this would be a separate device just to be clear. So that's where the kahoot.it comes in. tOkay, then it says game pin, so we would just have this game pin. You would have this displayed for the students so they don't have to do all this back and forth. Enter. You put a nickname, so I would advise that you just make sure they're doing what their initial for their first name, something that you would know who they are, and keep it appropriate, and then okay go. And then this is what it's going to show on my screen, waiting for everybody to set up if I were a student, and then on your screen it's showing that one player is in. So maybe only one player is doing this right now.  We'll hit start and it says, "Are you ready?" so on my screen it looks like this. I'm the student, so it's counting down. I'm getting ready. Okay, so it will say, "Which of the following numbers are prime?"  I'm looking at these choices. And lets say I wanted to choose 11, it matches with the circle I'm choosing - 11. It says that I'm correct. On the teacher screen, it shows that 1 person did it and they got it correct. If there were more students, it would tell you how many got each question correct or incorrect. The next question when I'm ready as the teacher, when everyone has answered, and everybody has seen it, I hit "Next". So I'm winning my own game, that's good news.  "Which of the following numbers are composite?" So now I'm looking. I have to match it up...hmmm.  I'm going to guess incorrectly this time. I'm going to say 2 because it's an even number and that was the square. "Incorrect" that's okay. Better luck next time, right? So now it shows - this is what somebody picked, what I picked since I'm the only one. I picked this one, this is the correct answer. Next, true or false, this is our last question. "A prime number only has one factor, true or false?" I'm going to get this one right this time. I picked that one. I am correct and there we go. These are the final results and I won my own game.
