The WIU7 Foundational Literacy Scope and Sequence is a structured, intentional roadmap that outlines the foundational literacy skills taught, when they are introduced, and how they are systematically revisited and strengthened throughout the preschool year. A scope and sequence ensures that instruction is developmentally appropriate, cumulative, and aligned, allowing educators to build children’s early literacy skills in a coherent and purposeful way rather than through isolated or incidental activities.

 

At WIU7, this scope and sequence serves as the instructional backbone for early literacy instruction in Early Intervention classrooms. It is designed to support all learners—particularly students with disabilities—by emphasizing explicit, systematic, and embedded instruction within meaningful classroom routines and play-based learning experiences.
